"We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to create a new exception to copyright law that gives individuals the right to create a private copy of copyrighted materials for their own personal use, including back-ups, archiving and shifting format."
http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/privatecopy/It's now possible to petition the prime minister online. This petition struck me as a good idea, without any possible downsides. A lot of the others require quite a lot of deep thought (or are just downright bad ideas), but this really is simple. So I thought I'd put it here and see if anyone else is interested in signing it.
On the other hand, if you just feel silly you could sign a petition asking the PM to stand on his head and juggle icecream. I'm not making this up, there is one for that.
